Interval Training has been getting serious press for its effectiveness for fat loss and fitness benefits over the last couple of years and rightly so. The American College of Sports Medicine recently outlined a program (see link at end) that can be done at home with no equipment and takes only 7 minutes. Yes this type of training is hard but your body can be reaping the benefits for up to 72 hours after, longer less intense exercise do not get this ‘after burn’ effect.
Many clients who begin a course of personal training with me are complete beginners and I ensure that we build up their programs gradually. However, the human body is incredibly good at adapting quickly and by only a few weeks beginners are able to do a whole hour of these 7 minute workouts (obviously with ample recovery time). Can you imagine how many calories a personal training clients burns after a whole hour of this type of training? I have actually left heart rate calorie counters on clients for 10 hours following the session and often I get reports back of over 2000 calories. You simply do not get this with regular slow and steady exercise. This level of calorie expenditure is one of the major reasons people who train with me transform their bodies in only 2-3 months. The great part is once you get to your physique goals then maintaining that level is actually very easy and I teach all my clients just how to do that. The hard work is getting to the body shape or weight goal but that is why people hire me as their personal trainer as I ensure this body transformation happens as quickly and safely as possible.
